ASTRONOMY AND PARTICLE PHYSICS FOR THE PUBLIC

THINGS WE DO

  • Our next National Particle Physics Masterclass is on Thursday 20th March 2008
  • A set of Teaching Pages based on the DØ experiment
  • A display program for Bubble Chamber Pictures now adapted for the PC.
  • You can run our BaBar simulation package or you can download your own copy.
  • Learn about BaBar and CP violation.
  • A LEP simulator program that runs on a PC can be downloaded from here (Technical note:this was compressed with WinZip 5.5).
  • Identifying Interesting Particle Physics events at LEP - a web-based tutorial.
  • We arrange talks on Particle Physics for large audiences.
  • We maintain a national list of contacts for teachers of particle physics
  • And of course we're always happy to arrange a talk for local schools, societies, or groups. Or to answer queries - email us at queries@hep.man.ac.uk.
  • A CD-ROM for schools containing a collection of web Particle Physics information is available on request.

  • SOME PAST EVENTS

A National Particle Physics Masterclass is held annually. The last took place in March 2007.

The PPARC National Institute in Particle Physics - a 1 week intensive course in recent developments in Particle Physics and Astronomy for teachers of Physics was held again in July 2003.

The Manchester Science Event and D:REAM.
